Located at Calle San José, 39 in Sitges.
Rating: 1 Star
“Look, if you’re after marble bathrooms and sleek modern design, you’ll hate it here. But if you just want a spot that’s spotless, budget-friendly, and right in the middle of everything, it’s honestly one of the best finds in Sitges.”
Hotel El Cid is a hidden gem that completely redefines what a “1-star” hotel can be. Located right in the heart of town, it’s just a five-minute walk from the train station and less than ten minutes to the beach, making it perfect for exploring.
Why I Loved It
- The “Killer” Breakfast: This is the real star of the show. They serve a massive buffet until noon, so you never have to rush in the morning. I’m talking fresh meats, cheeses, Spanish specialties like Cava and Iberian ham, and even gluten-free options.
- Massive Beds: For a budget spot, the beds are surprisingly huge—some are up to 2.5 meters long—and very comfortable.
- Cleanliness: Every corner of the hotel is spotlessly clean. Even though it has a bit of an “old school” charm, the maintenance is clearly a priority.
- The Pool Area: It has a lovely outdoor pool with sun loungers. It’s a quiet, relaxing spot to escape the midday heat before heading back out.
A Few Things to Note
- Dated Decor: If you’re looking for ultra-modern minimalism, this isn’t it. The design is more traditional with a bit of a Moroccan or Tunisian vibe.
- Noise: Being so central, street-facing rooms can get some traffic noise. If you’re a light sleeper, I’d suggest booking a pool-side room or one on the 4th floor.
- Basic Amenities: The rooms are unfussy. You won’t find a kettle or a hairdryer in the room, so you might want to pack your own. However, most rooms do come with a small fridge.
My Take: It is easily one of the best value-for-money stays in Sitges. You get 3-star service and facilities at a 1-star price. I’d definitely book here again just for that breakfast and the central location!
